Biodiversity Conservation
The Rogów Arboretum carries out ex situ conservation of protected and endangered plant species through an extensive collection of documented origin. It is one of the richest collections of its kind in Poland.
The collection serves as a repository of plants with known provenance, often originating from natural habitats. In a sense, it functions as a living gene bank. It provides high-quality research material for ecologists, physiologists, biochemists, geobotanists, and other scientists. Individual specimens may also serve as a source of propagation material for reintroduction efforts or for reinforcing natural populations.
The collections of protected and endangered plants also play an important educational role. Individual species are marked with educational information boards and labels and are described in both our guidebook and audio guide. A large part of these collections is located within the Garden of Endangered Plants of the World, where the presentation of and information about the plants are of particular importance.
We also undertake activities aimed at reinforcing local populations of Daphne mezereum, Lilium martagon, and Cimicifuga europaea, whose populations have declined dramatically over recent decades.
